Oman Aims for 10% GDP Boost Through Digital Economy Expansion by 2040
Oman has unveiled ambitious plans to elevate its digital economy, targeting a 10% contribution to GDP by 2040. The strategy, aligned with Oman Vision 2040, emphasizes digital government integration, business digitization, and societal digital transformation. Currently, the sector contributes 3% to GDP, with projections to scale rapidly through structured initiatives.
The National Programme for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Digital Technologies, launched in 2023, serves as a cornerstone. With 32 active projects, it focuses on AI adoption, startup incubation, and research localization. Oman’s global rankings—45th in AI readiness, 41st in e-Government, and 1st in cybersecurity—underscore its progress. The government aims to break into the top 20 across these metrics.
